A fantastic improvement from the first DQ Builders!

A fantastic improvement from the first DQ Builders!
Update (19.07.27): Having completed nearly 80% of the story mode, I have continued to have an amazing time playing DQB2. The story currently has been more engaging than the previous chapter and rebuilding the world has been extremely fun. I've spent countless hours making a nice railway system for my Islanders and many others building their homes and habitats. Spent a few hours on multiplayer and it was a blast doing the Explorer Islands together. I added some images of some work I did on the 3rd main island. Will upload some originals eventually.I was initially hesitant on the Dragon Quest Builders franchise and purchased the first game on a Black Friday sale. As a Dragon Quest (Warrior) fan, I have played every entry in the series excluding the online entry. Dragon Quest Builders, however, sat on my shelf for months before I finally gave it a chance and I immediately fell in love.Dragon Quest Builders 2 is a fantastic improvement from the first game with a world that feels significantly larger, characters that are more developed, and a more refined gameplay experience. Since purchasing the game on Friday, I have played approximately 40 or so hours and am on the second story location. The most welcome change is the removal of the chapters of the first game. The game still does a fantastic job sectioning parts of the story from one location to another and every location has a set of unique characters and challenges that help build the world of DQB2. There are also random locations that you can explore for resources or new NPCs to add to your "home island." The NPCs can function on their own and can also help you build as long as you have the blueprints, the resources, and the space. Do not fret, however, there is plenty of space in the game. It is daunting in it's scale and may leave you feeling overwhelmed with too much to do. The best advice I can give in enjoying the game is to take your time and do not restrict yourself in accomplishing each mission as quickly as possible; relish in your ability to build and create these towns.Liked:- Large world to explore with many things to do and limitless capacity for creation if you're imaginative enough. I will likely post some examples when I update this review later.- Characters are fun and developed relatively well for a "Minecraft" game. I enjoyed my interactions with the main NPCs and was pleasantly surprised by their quirks and the bits of humor in the translation.- Combat can feel clunky and unfair, but once you get the hang of it, it actually feels quite fun.- I enjoyed the ability to explore other player's creations. There are many truly amazing player worlds out there to explore and get ideas from.- Farming is an excellent addition and I have spent a good portion of my time developing my farm (twice now) and finding new crops to plant. I really shouldn't enjoy farming this much on a video game. :o)- Loved all the new recipes and blueprints I've discovered. The developers really put some thought on growing this franchise from the first game in the series.Disliked:- Only 1 save file, unless you back up on PS+ or a USB drive.- Multiplayer feels added on and does not significantly add to the game.- There are portions of text narration that say on the screen longer than necessary. I can read the text in 2 to 5 seconds, but the text stays on-screen for nearly 30 seconds. I hope this gets resolved in a patch. If you have any reservations, there is a free demo that you can download. If you enjoy the game, you can continue from the demo when you purchase the full game. Highly recommended.

This game gives me absolutely everything I ever wished the first one could have improved on. A myriad of new tools make it a lot easier and faster to do certain things, and later in the game when you gain the ability to befriend monsters, certain monsters can act as other useful tools as well. Fall damage isn't such a danger, you don't have to hunt for dropped items if you die, you have a "fast" running speed(!), and you can customize your outfit to look like a different item so you don't have to choose between fashion and certain stat bonuses. You can fill certain requirements to access unlimited amounts of certain materials for crafting which is SO helpful. The story is great, classic silly Dragon Quest puns galore and a great satisfying epic feel, especially the ending. Admittedly the combat feels easier than the first game, but I personally don't mind because I play other action games for fun combat; I play Builders to build. Overall a lot of fun, more than worth the $25 I paid for it, and a huge enough improvement from the first game that I would be ecstatic to see what they would bring to a third title in the series!

This game takes place after the events of Dragon Quest II but probably in the alternate timeline of the 1rst Dragon Quest Builders as well. Unlike the 1rst game this is an actual action RPG where you get XP from the enemies and level up but there's a level cap restricted by story progression.

This game is even more sandbox oriented than the 1rst with a lot of freedom and other things to do like farming among other things. If you want the ability of fishing then you need to buy the aquarium DLC for $9.99 USD.

It has many improvements that will help you navigate in closed buildings and also a 1rst person view if you press R3 on the PS4 controller, you have to find out what button to use for this on other platforms.

If you don't like to build stuff then this is not for you but if you like games like Minecraft and Dragon Quest at the same time then you will like this. You will spend hours on this game so be careful with your time.

I went into this game knowing nothing about the first game or any of the dragon quest games. This is a perfect mixture of Minecraft and your normal RPG game. Awesome characters, except for Lulu, idk why but she just annoyed me the entire game lol. I’ve gotten this game a month or two ago and I’m still playing which is saying something because there was a good 2 weeks I played it all day everyday and still have yet to finish the story line. I’ve easily put like 50 hours into this game. For the price I payed which was around 20 bucks it was a great purchase but I would be just as happy if I spent full price for it as well. BUY THIS GAME YOU WONT REGRET IT!

Don't get me wrong, I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Minecraft. But in terms of polish, features and personality, Dragon Quest Builders 2 pulls away at the starting line and never ever lets up.

It is hard to overstate how much better villages and villagers are in DQB2. There are the fact that DQB2 villagers all have distinct appearances and personalities and proper dialog and costuming. There is proper furniture, and the characters can interact with it. There is a proper day/night cycle and the villages feel alive. If there is a raid, it is 5 minutes of crazy fun chaos that wraps up promptly and doesn't derail the game. Basically, everything works properly, and is utterly charming, and it makes Minecraft seem very crude in comparison.

This is a game I've been looking forward to ever since I finished the first Dragon Quest Builders, and it does not disappoint.

I bought the game due to growing up playing Dragon Quest series. Prior to buying this game I was playing Minecraft and I felt like the game lacked excitement to keep me playing the game and then when I ran into this game, I had to buy it immediately. It consists of both RPG type stories with minecraft like creative building aspect, that kept me up playing it all night for the first few days of receiving the item. This game on PS store is $59.99 so if you were thinking about trying this game, I recommend buying it through amazon since it only costs about $25.
