Customers like the quality of the robotic vacuum cleaner. They say it does an excellent job of cleaning, and is able to clean under the couch and beds. They also appreciate the design that makes cleaning the canister and both rollers pretty easy. The vacuum comes with a little cleaning tool that makes clean the brush roll very easy and quick. It does a great job on dust, dirt, and cat hair, no matter where it is. The instruction booklet gives complete cleaning instructions, and picking up more dirt and hair than they knew existed in their house. Emptying it is not that troublesome, and it is no more disgusting than their bagless upright.

I decided to try one more time and am so glad I did. This tiny vacuum does a great job for us. It picks up so much fur and dirt it’s amazing.
Pros-
Picks up a ton of fur and filth
Runs itself until battery is low then docks to recharge
Is simple to use
Parts that get clogged with fur (yes, if you have pets, it WILL get clogged up) are easy to dissemble to remove fur clumps
Filter is easy to remove and clean. I use canned air out on the back porch, takes under a minute
Cons-
Loudness is similar to a regular vacuum, if running it while home it can be annoying
Thats the only con I can come up with. It needs frequent cleaning but thats not really a con to me, my upright vacuum needs to have its rollers cleared after every use too.
We use baby gates to keep our dogs on one side of the house when we’re not home, so I like to turn it on when I’m leaving in the morning and it can rip around the family room & kitchen unmolested by the dogs. Then in the evening I put the baby gate back up and let it rip in the hallway & bedrooms.
I used this w/o using my upright vacuum for a couple weeks and while it did a great job on the main areas of the floors and rugs, I noticed a lot of tumbleweeds of fur collected in corners where the roomba couldn’t reach it, also on the heat vent returns, this is why I say it can’t replace a regular vacuum being used at least weekly imo. But I have a collie, a sheltie and a long haired doxie so yeah, fur is a thing in my house.
It runs around like a drunken sailor and gives me fits when I’m home to see it, I’m always sure it won’t get all the dirt & fur up but eventually it does. I think confining it to smaller areas helps too. Sometimes I close it up in a room and it cleans it so well. It has crawled up walls a little before and gotten stuck a few times but surprisingly not very often. If I’m home while it’s running I always empty the dirt tray after 30 minutes or so. When it runs and nobody is home, the tray is FULL when I empty it. Also, when I run it using a baby gate it often can’t find the dock, not sure why but I just carry it over to the dock. Which reminds me of one thing I wish it had-a study carrying handle would be so nice. I carry it to the dock and to the kitchen to clean the rollers etc and would like it a lot more if I didn’t have to awkwardly lug it around.
I highly recommend this roomba model, it’s made my housekeeping a lot easier.
Edit to add that one day I realized that there is a built in handle! Boy did I feel dumb when I realized it was there lol. Anyway it’s still working great and carrying it to the kitchen to empty the dust bin is much easier now that I use the handle.
Think of the 614 as the iPod Shuffle of robot vacuums - it comes from the industry standard brand, but it's very basic in functionality. I think that's okay; the Roomba 614 gives up features our DEEBOT has such as a remote and a scheduling timer, but doesn't having a remote to tell the vacuum what to do and where to go defeat the purpose of it autonomously vacuuming your house? The only reason I use the DEEBOT remote is to pause it when it begins its scheduled clean and I'm on a conference call from home. Since the 614 requires you to manually click "Clean," I find no need for a remote for the Roomba. Plus, I don't mind manually clicking "Clean" because these vacuums will hit everything in their wake. You really can't use an autonomous vacuum without first picking up your house, so not having the scheduled clean means you can first tidy up and then have it vacuum the house on your terms.
The simplicity of the Roomba further extends to its audible alerts, which I think makes it an excellent choice for elderly or tech-averse people. When the Roomba gets stuck, it audibly says "Error: Please move the Roomba to a new location and click clean." This tells the user exactly what to do, whereas the DEEBOT will beep like a dead fire alarm for 5 minutes until you get fed up with it and give it attention - and then you have to figure out why it was beeping in the first place.
Saving the most important part for last: this Roomba does an excellent job of cleaning. Granted, we have hardwood floors, no pets, and no kids, so we are an easy use case. The 614 doesn't have the mapping technology that saves pictures of your floor plan like the more expensive models do, but it hasn't really been a problem so far. We use it about once a week, and the canister is almost always nearly full. We have a Shark upright vacuum that we use for heavier cleans, but I've found that the Shark isn't picking up much more than the 614 has already gotten. Most impressively, the edge sensing technology is phenomenal. Our entire upstairs is loft-style, and the Roomba has about 30 feet of edge to deal with where it gets perilously close to falling 12 feet (photo in review). We didn't buy the extra $60 "invisible wall" sensor, and the Roomba has been entirely successful not falling without it.
Overall, the Roomba 614 is a great value as a simple, easy-to-use budget robot vacuum. I definitely prefer it over our DEEBOT, and the lack of additional features hasn't been a hindrance at all in its usability. iRobot nailed the basics such as suction, user interface, and the fantastic edge detection system, and I highly recommend it as a robot vacuum for a small home or upstairs.
NOTE: The only issue I had with the Roomba 614 is with our IKEA Poang chair. The rear of the Poang chair is low enough that the Roomba cannot detect it, yet it's high enough that the Roomba would get stuck multiple times during a cleaning. If you have a Poang chair and are interested in this vacuum, I recommend putting the Poang chair on felt non-slip furniture pads (photo in review). Raising the Poang 1/8" has prevented the Roomba from getting stuck anymore, and the $3 furniture pads are much cheaper than buying a $60 Roomba "invisible wall" for a $60 chair.

Works WAY better than my conventional vacuum (which is admittedly pretty old). Apartment has never been cleaner, and I vacuum way more often since it is basically hands off. I just fire up ol' Roomba and then start picking things up off the ground and moving furniture out of the way.
You can buy the fancy laser walls, but I don't really see the need. They may be handy if you have a huge area to do that is fairly open. For me though, I just toss a couple of pillows or whatnot down across a doorway, hall, or other area, and create a simple barrier to keep Roomba where I want it.
Cleaning is easy enough, and the battery life is definitely quite good. I have a ~900 sf apartment, but the layout is quite constrictive and thus I can't trust Roomba to make it everywhere very efficiently without some guidance. I tend to split the job in 2 or 3. The battery has never run out. One time, for fun, I turned it loose with no barriers and most of the doors open and left for 40 minutes. I came home and it was still going, so I hit the "dock" button and left again. When I got home later, the Roomba had indeed found its way back. Basically it has to randomly drive near the docking station and then senses it and begins to drive in and dock itself. Usually I'll just pick it up when I think it's done enough, clean / empty it, then put it down in front of the dock station and tell it to dock.
The extra features of programming for when you are away would be nice, but I find I have to (or at least prefer) to move stuff out of the way for the Rooomba to do the optimal job anyway, so it's not really required.
Super happy with it 2 months in. Hope it lasts a long time
