For $28, this is one decent manual flash unit. I don't see how they could've designed it to be easier to operate. You literally can skip the manual and just start using it if you're in a hurry; it's that easy to figure out.Set it to M for manual mode, or S1 or S2 for slave mode. In M mode, adjust the brightness by simply pressing the + or - button and the LED will show the level. S1 mode is for manual flash conditions, and will trigger the slave flash immediately. S2 mode is for TTL mode, and will ignore the initial master flash unit's flash. Set it to either S1 or S2 mode, adjust your brightness with the - and + buttons. Position it where you want using the included stand, and use your on-camera flash or other flash unit on your camera to trigger this flash. It works like a charm. If you want side or back lighting, this is the easiest way to get it. It even remembers your previous brightness setting for each mode! The unit has a power saving mode: five minutes in M mode, and 40 minutes in S1 and S2 modes, so you've got plenty of time to get those shots before it falls asleep.Included is a drop-down flash diffuser and bounce card. The bounce card is a nice touch; many units costing a lot more don't include that. Just keep in mind that you'll want to bump up the power a couple of notches if you use the diffuser.Recycle time is listed at three seconds, but that's only for the highest power setting. Lower power settings will let you fire off flash after flash about once per second. It spins around 270°, and points anywhere from straight ahead to straight up. If you want a nice soft but well-distributed light on your subject, stand with your back close to a white wall and point the flash up at about 45° and behind you, or bounce it off of the ceiling. (See image of tripod head with flash unit pointed at the ceiling.)I've found two negatives so far:1.) The click stops for the various positions are not super solid; there's a bit of play there, and they're not terribly snug, so it's easy to bump the unit and move it to another position.2.) Cheap alkaline batteries aren't going to work. Make sure you use name brand batteries. All in all, this is a heck of a deal for the price. Get two or three for the price. You'll have a spare or two, or you can use them for off camera slave flash. (See crappy image of the slave unit providing back lighting.)

I've had quite a variety of digital cameras over the years but recently bought the first one that supported an external flash. After having the camera for a few days I decided I would try this flash as it was a decent value and had decent reviews. Now, I am by no means a photographer. I have worked with digital cameras since some of the very early consumer grade cameras became available (think 320x240 resolution - LOL) but I do not claim to fully understand all of the photography jargon or most of the settings on my camera.

This unit attached to my camera easily. I slide on firm but that may loosen up a bit after I use it more. As a "techie" I generally ignore the manuals and this was no exception. The device is simply to use and simple to adjust. My first picture turned into a total white-out because the flash is THAT BRIGHT. By adjusting the intensity a bit and flipping the flash so it was at a 45degree angle, my next picture and all of the ones since have turned out very well. Tonight I took my camera outside and took some pictures zoomed into a tree about 15-20 ft away and at an angle. It was after dark and I purposely turned all other exterior lights off just to see how the flash performed. Without any problem I can see the details in the leaves on the tree like I was standing over a leaf in broad daylight.

I would certainly recommend this flash for anyone who like me is just getting started with this level of photography.

So you've just found a flash on Amazon for $27 and still debating whether to buy it or not. Buy it, don't look back, you'll be glad. First, some background on me. I am a serious amateur who really enjoys playing with his equipment. I own a Canon 5D Mark III, and I also own a Canon 430EX, a Canon made flash. So when buying this, I was in your shoes, deciding whether I should buy this, but I decided to pull the trigger, and I am quite happy. The packaging is quite straightforward and simple, a brown box, that contains the flash, a user manual, and a flash stand. I don't usually review products, but when I do, it is because I am surprised by it. It is powered by 4 AA batteries, and I use rechargeable batteries, because they have a larger capacity than normal alkaline batteries. Using it for the first time, on my 5D Mark III, I was praying that it would work. It worked like a charm, which really surprised me. This is not what I bought this flash for though, I bought it to use as a slave flash for portraits. I tested the slave function out, and at first, it did not flash, but after consulting the easy to read manual, I found out that it was because I did not put it into the Slave modes (S1 and S2). I did just that, and both modes worked first time. This is a fully manual flash, so you will need to adjust the flash power by yourself, no TTL. Also, this will work on almost every camera with a hot shoe. Actually, with this flash, and it's 4 buttons and power switch, adjusting the power of the flash is quite user friendly, just use the + and - buttons. What you should have in mind, though, is that this is by no means a very powerful flash, but it is good enough to use as a fill flash, or a flash at night. You don't nessecarily need a DSLR to take advantage of this flash though. You can put the flash into S1 mode, and use your point-and-shoot's flash to trigger the AmazonBasics flash. It really helps, if you need more power from your point and shoot's flash. This is my other use, because my 430EX can only be triggered with Infrared, but this flash is triggered optically, so it should work with point and shoots, entry level DSLRs, and maybe even your phone! What I found, is that sometimes, in extremely bright environments, the flash does not trigger, but I am OK with that, because I shoot most of my portraits in the morning, or dusk. Some users may struggle to find the correct power setting to use, what I suggest is to use the first 3 bars in closer shots, a few more if the distance between you and your subject is kind of far, and just put it to the highest setting if there is strong backlighting, or if you are very far from your subject. The flash comes with a wide angle diffuser, and a bounce card built in, which you may find helpful. The diffuser is for wide angle lenses (less than 24mm) and the bounce card can redirect light to where you want it. All in all, this is a great, fun little flash to play around with, and I strongly suggest you get one if you are a novice photographer, or is on a shoestring budget.

Ambos sobrevivieron!!! . Simplemente la mejor relación calidad/precio

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheap and Cheerful, Great for In-Studio Learning
Reviewed in Canada on July 31, 2018
I'm a professional photographer who's always looking for cheap alternatives for interesting effects. These flashes make it possible for me to put radio triggers on one and have that flash sync the rest of them. Works every time. I'm using them in studio or studio-like settings, which is a distinction that needs to be made as they do feel a bit flimsy for event or wedding photography. Using them in a stable environment on lightstands or the included plastic stand works perfectly. Another reviewer suggested that the fact that these are branded as Amazon Basics right on the front of the camera might make you look less professional. I have two answers to this: 1. We call those people Uncle Bob for a reason. 2. If it bothers you enough, a Sharpie can fix it for you. I can't stress enough how great these are for cheap studio strobes. Will they outlast and outperform real speedlights/speedlites/Godox options? Probably not. But, they are a great way to learn off-camera flash without spending $200-$600 a pop. Just keep shooting!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bargain, such a bargain!

This is the cheapest tilt/swivel upright speedlight I have ever bought, and it was worth every single penny!

It only arrived this morning but I have already taken it through its paces by doing some product photography in my makeshift studio of some camera equipment.

It did not misfire once, and works perfectly fine with my Yongnuo RF603C II triggers on both Canon and Fuji camera's!

I already own a lot of Yongnuo flashes, YN560 IIIs and YN460 IIs, so this one from amazon will compliment my set up perfectly, as one can never have too many speedlights at ones disposal!

I found the slave feature to work just fine, I was indoors but by a south facing window, so lots of light already in the room but i stopped the lens down and triggered the flash with the pop up flash several times, and it worked every time, even with the small pop up flash on the Cano EOS M5!

As for build quality, well, its not as sturdy as my yongnuo speedlights, the tilting head tilts far too easily, when attached to a Bowens S mount adaptor i found the body to be very loose to the point where just the weight of the body with batteries inside was enough to let gravity win. It also does not feel all that sturdy either, it feels cheaply made, but thats the price you pay for a cheap speedlight, however i think build quality could be improved upon greatly in this respect!

The case that comes with it is very flimsy but that is nothing to worry about as all my speedlights are kept in a camera backpack, but the package itself arrived very safe and sound.

I am going to buy a few more of these because they are such good value for money, and I recommend this if you shoot manually without the need for TTL or anything fancy, this is just a no nonsense flashgun that does its job very well indeed, I am impressed!
